10. British Shorthair

British Shorthair Cat

Price, $1,500. The British short hair is among the most popular breeds of cats that are registered in the United Kingdom. These distinctly cute felines are starting to make a huge impact on cat lovers all over the world. A mainstay in cat shows and competitions. The British Shorthair is famed for having a stable character, which makes them a perfect choice for both families and people living in apartments. Their fur is incredibly dense and soft, truly a fluffy kitty! Their bod is naturally chunky with a broad face.

The most familiar color is a solid blue-gray coat with gorgeous copper eyes. The breed has also been developed in other colors and patterns, including tabby and colorpoint.  How much will buying a British Shorthair kitten set you back? A respectable $500 to $1,500 depending on age, color variant and breeding history.

9.  Scottish Fold

Scottish Fold Cat

Price –  $3,000. In ninth place is the amazingly distinctive Scottish Fold. If you’re wondering where you might have seen one of these insanely cute kitties before than it could be that singing superstar Taylor Swift has a Scottish Fold named Olivia Benson. Most recognized for their unusually folded ears, Scottish folds, really do look like something out of a classic Japanese anime. A perfect choice for a pet, Scottish folds are known for being especially loving to their owners.  Buying one for yourself will cost anywhere between $2,000 to $3,000.

8.  Sphynx

Sphynx Cat

Price $3,000. If you’re looking for a unique cat breed that is going to stand out from the rest, that is stunning, then the Spanx is absolutely the way to go. Noted for being a hairless breed, the Sphynx is one of the most instantly recognizable breeds in any animal species. If you’re interested in getting a Sphynx, then it’s important to know they require a little more special care and attention then regular fur covered cats. However, what you get for your extra care is a little bundle of peculiar fun! Sphynx cats are so vocal that it can often feel like you’re having a proper conversation with them. This expensive cat can cost up to $3,000 if you’re looking for the pedigree level breed.

7.  Russian blue

Russian blue Cat

Price $3,000.  Taking the seventh spot on the chart of most expensive cat breeds in the world is the beautiful Russian Blue breed. These wonderful cats have a reputation for being incredibly playful, intelligent, and curious.  Which can make them a bit of a handful for owners but a whole lot of fun too! The breed is also famous for getting along with other pets and young children, which has resulted in making them an extremely sought after and valuable cat breed. Cat Lovers wanting to welcome a Russian Blue into their lives can expect to pay a top end price of up to $3,000

6. Peterbald

Peterbald Cat

Price  $5,000. Sitting proudly near the middle spot of the most expensive cat breed list is the slightly rare Peterbald cat. This peculiar, but a wonderful breed was created as the result of an experimental mating between a male Donskoy and female oriental shorthair. I for one, am glad this experiment worked because the Peterbald is a beautiful, distinctive cat. Their ears are oversized and stand pert with exceptional hearing. Their build is muscular, tall and lean.   If you want one of these elegant, energetic beauties in your life, then you better be prepared to dish out somewhere in the range of $5,000 for a kitten.

5. Persian Cat

Persian Cat

Price $5,500.  One of the most celebrated cat breeds in the world. The Persian cat is definitely one of the most expensive cat breeds. These kitties are seen by many as the ultimate example of the feline species. The distinctive facial features of the Persian cat lead you to fall in love almost immediately!  They’re laid back relaxed nature means that the cat stays loyal from day one. Being one of the most popular breed of cat obviously makes the Persian one of the most expensive cat breeds too! Be prepared to be covered in fur, like always. A small price to pay compared to the whopping price tag! If you want to welcome a Persian kitten into your home, you can expect to pay an average of $5,500 for one with a pedigree. Persian cat parents will tell you it’s worth every penny!

4.  Allerca Hypoallergenic Cat

Allerca Cat

Price $6,000. The work of dedicated research by the lifestyle pets company, formerly known as LP cat, the Allerca hypoallergenic cat is the answer to all of the prayers of cat lovers who have a cruel allergy to the thing they love most.  Through the disabling and deleting of certain genes through the generational breeding, the company claims to have created a breed of cat that doesn’t cause allergic reactions to those who have previously suffered at the hands of their furry favorites. Of course, there are some who don’t believe that this achievement is true, but those who want to test whether their allergies are gone for good, we’ll need to fork out somewhere in the region of $6,000 for the privilege.

3.  Bengal Cat

Bengal Cat

Price $25,000. With its distinctive wild looking spots the wild looking Bengal cat is near the top of the most expensive cat breeds in the world.  The Bengal cat is becoming fairly recognizable in today’s cat owning society. What makes this breed particularly valuable is it’s closeness to its larger and more dangerous ancestors. Bengals are created by crossing a domestic feline with an Asian Leopard cat. As a result, you can expect a fiery, excitable companion that likes nothing more than to bring you daily gifts from the garden in the form of anything smaller than itself. Bengal’s can be so formidable that pet owners are actually required to make sure that the cat they are buying is at least four generations removed from the original leopard cat. The very best examples of the breed have been known to go for as much as $25,000. The Bengals in that price range are suited for shows and will not be altered as for future breeding purposes. Reputable breeders will not even sell you that level of Bengal unless you have special certifications as a breeder and prove intent for showing. It can be risky for an amateur to attempt breeding. If you want the most dramatic markings, the pedigree level cat and options for future breeding you can expect to pay up to $25,000 for this unique kitty cat!

2. Savannah

Savannah Cat

Price $50,000. Just missing out on the top spot our expensive cat breed list is the amazing Savannah cat. Much like the Bengal, Savannas have a distinctly wild look and personality. They are a cross between a domestic cat and a much larger, African wild cat called a Serval. Fascinatingly, Savannah’s have often been compared more to dogs than cats in terms of their fierce loyalty, but thankfully they still share the strong intelligence that cats have over most dogs. A truly extraordinary cat to see and to own. Expect a high energy, large than life,  free-spirited companion. A loyal Savannah kitten can set you back as much as $50,000 depending on the status of the breeder and the evidence of pedigree.

For our number one spot, drum roll please…………..

1. Ashera Cat

Ashera Cat

Price $100,000.   Well, this is it, the most expensive cat breed in the world is the sensational Ashera cat.  Known to be worth as much as $100,000!! A common theme with the top spot on our list is definitely the hybrid factor with this breeds being a combination of all of the most valuable animals. We’ve already mentioned, the African Serval, the Asian Leopard cat, and a domestic house cat. Ashera’s are known to be extremely loyal, intelligent, and affectionate, making them the perfect pedigree companion. Those looking for a true Ashera, need to be careful as the high prices asked for them can often lead to people selling Savannah cats and passing them off as Ashera.  With a cat that is this expensive, potential owners will request a DNA test done to show proper lineage and confirm that this is indeed an Ashera kitty. It’s also important to note that these cats are exceptionally rare to find. If you are so lucky to find a genuine  Ashera, you should expect to be parting with around $100,000 for the privilege.

There you have it, 10 of the world’s most expensive cat breeds! I hope you enjoyed this top 10 list as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Just a small note I’m compelled to include with this article. These cats are special and unique and we encourage anyone who decides on the commitment,  to do your research first. Some of these cats require extraordinary care. While they are beautiful kitties and make loyal companions, please be sure you can provide a loving home that meets their unique needs. It’s easy to want an animal that will draw so much attention, just educate yourself on the particulars of your selected breed, make an informed decision, not an impulsive one. It’s all too common these days that certain breeds are left and abandoned because the owners didn’t realize what the commitment would be. As an animal lover myself, it’s my duty to add this little disclosure.
